What Defines a Quality Kitchen?
As you embark on your kitchen renovation, you may wonder: what defines a quality kitchen?
Is it the design, the cabinetry, the finishing touches, or something else entirely?
In this blog, we focus on the key elements of a quality kitchen, helping you make an informed choice.

In this blog, we focus on the key elements of a quality kitchen, helping you make an informed choice.

Starting on the right track
A quality kitchen begins with selecting a trusted supplier. When asked, "Who provides the kitchen furniture?" a reliable kitchen designer should clearly explain the sources and manufacturing locations of the furniture.
For example, if you asked us, we’d say Second Nature. We've partnered with them for many years because their quality cabinets are hard-wearing, and their customer service is second to none.

Quality installation is key
The fundamental difference between a high-quality kitchen and an average one is installation.
Even budget kitchens can last longer with proper fitting. When you pair a well-made kitchen with expert installation, you guarantee a seamless finish that stands the test of time. It works both ways; even the highest-budget kitchen furniture without a precise fitting will lead to issues like uneven doors or misaligned components that can cause premature ageing.

The importance of carcass edging
Next, examine the carcass's edges. High-quality kitchens have fully edged panels, typically with 1.2mm or 2mm PVC edging, to protect the core from moisture and enhance the look.
DIY kitchens and other cheaper options may only feature a thin, paper-like edge, which is more prone to chipping and peeling over time.

Choosing the right colour
Mass-produced kitchens are often limited to a small range of colours—usually white, cream, or oak. While this doesn't necessarily impact quality, having more colour options allows for a kitchen that better reflects your style. The ability to customise your kitchen's look can have additional benefits, and we'd be happy to discuss your options with you.
Our cabinets are hand-painted and come in a wide range of colours; feel free to get in touch to explore the possibilities.

Hinges, drawer boxes, and runners
How many times a day do you open your kitchen drawers? Quite a lot!
This adds up over the years, so investing in quality hinges, runners, and drawer boxes is essential. Look for well-known brands that offer bottom-mounted runners designed to support the drawer's weight from below. There should be minimal sagging or movement when fully extended, ensuring the drawers don't collide and damage the unit's frontage.

It's all in the details
Smooth-gliding drawers with minimal wobble are a sign of quality. Square drawer sides provide more usable space and are easier to organise. When considering the load capacity, look for drawers that can handle up to 90kg, or at least 40kg, to ensure durability.
Remember to check if the hardware comes with a long warranty—this indicates a product built to last. Ask all the right questions to ensure your kitchen stands the test of time.
